does KS have his science book home today by chance?
or is he still at practice?

he's still at practice
and he doesn't have homework so he doesn't usually bring his books home
he does it in class
or homeroom

ask him to bring his science book home with him so you can have a look at it.

can it be tomorrow?

sure

okay

whenever. P asked KW to bring hers home so he could look at it at the beginning of the school year, she finally did it today. *eyeroll*

When he does i want you to pay attention to a couple things and note why P doesn't like public education

okay

Chapter 14 is about climate
section 3 is global climate
or long term changes in climate

it gives all the natural causes of climate change first, which is good.

then section 4 is global changes in the atmosphere.
talks about the greenhouse effect, etc., el nino, la nina, global warming and the greenhouse hypothesis, and then on page 576, "changing levels of carbon dioxide"

there's a graph that shows a fairly steady level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere from year 1000 - 1800, then a pronounced/drastic upward shift in the level between 1800 and 2000.

It says in the text "Many scientists think that this change is a result of increased human activities. For example, the burning of wood, coal, oil, and natural gas adds carbon dioxide to the air. During the last 100 years these activities have increased greatly in many different countries..."

What does it not say?

? deforestation?

good!
what else?

more people = more co2 emission

excellent... population spiked dramatically between 1800 and 2000. Who was studying climate prior to 1800? They're taking this from bubbles in ice core samples. i have a question about that. does it not take a certain level of carbon dioxide to make a bubble in ice?

but your first answer was the most important. we've been stripping the earth bare in the name of development. carbon dioxide is what plants use to breathe. ultimately, there's nothing we can do to harm the planet itself, only ourselves.

eventually a carbon rich environment is going to be good for the planet, because it'll cause more plants to grow. i'll get down from the soap box for a minute. i'm sorry

*nods* but we need to preserve ourselves

we're not necessarily saving the planet, but the things we do in the name of it are proactive ways of saving our species.

right. which keeps right on growing. but that's not what they're saying to us. that's not what environmentalists are preaching.

the other thing that kills me is that they took infrared satellite imagery of the ozone hole in 1979, 2000 and 2003 "look at the size of it!!!" but didn't mention that it fluctuates wildly inbetween all the stinkin' time!

I say free birth control for anyone who wants it

right on

and we'll save the planet

sounds good

and quit clear cutting for new subdivisions

you're preaching to the choir on that one, hon

what crap is that? who doesn't want shade trees? they help with heating and cooling costs ffs!

I'm surrounded

lol
i know

I wasn't

i'm moving
that's it

My girl has lost nearly everything, including her home, thanks to Hurricane Ike. Please light a candle, say a prayer, or whatever it is you do, for her.

...a green frog hopping across my livingroom carpet. I put him outside (where green frogs belong). He was cute, though.

Every time sharon loses a pound, I find it.

...fast forward, 6 months and 30 pounds later...

I now have 2 pairs of jeans that fit. If she doesn't stop losing weight, I'm not gonna beat her.
